A National Identity Card in Nepal also known as Rastriya Parichaya Patra is a government-issued identification card like your citizenship.


This chip installed card contains personal information such as name, photograph and biometric data. It will serves as proof of citizenship and have plans to be used for various government and legal purposes in Nepal such as voting, obtaining a passport, and other works.

In Nepal, NID Card is issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It will be mandatory for all Nepali citizens above the age of 16 to obtain a it.

Process for National Identity Card in Nepal

NID Pre-Enrollment: To get your NID Card first you need to apply for online application.

Appointment for offline user: After application you need to take appointment date for Biometrics, online applicants can choose their location and date. But if you are physically writing and submitting form then you need to visit your District Administrative Office and ask for date.


They will write a date and sing it, you need to come back to the office on that day. It take very few minutes for this process.

Appointment Date for Biometrics: They will start taking biometrics form 10 am in the morning so, I advice you to go their by 9:30 and submit your form as soon as possible.

It takes no more than 10 min for a single people if everything is working fine. During my appointment their printer stopped working and I had to wait 30min.


Receive your NID Number: First you will receive a verified message and then your NID or Rastriya Parichaya Patra number through SMS. But for your card it will take time. They will call or message you once your card is ready to receive.

The online application for National Identity Card is simple and quick to register your form follow the steps below:


  1. Visit NID Pre-Enrollment System
  2. Login for Individuals
  3. Click on New Enrollment, Then Add
    • Personal details
    • Contact details
    • Family details
    • Select desired appointment dates (For Biometrics)
  4. After confirming, submit it.

You will get option to downloads this application, all you need to do is downloads it and print that form.

Then take it with you along with other documents required on your appointment date you’ve selected.

Documents required for a National Identity Card in Nepal?

You need to prepare the following documents for NID Card:

  1. Application form | Print if Online
  2. Recent Photograph
  3. Citizenship (Copy and Original)
  4. Parent’s citizenship (Must)
  5. Marriage certificate (If Married)
  6. Death certificate (If your partner is no more)
